Introduction

LARVA is a high end 60% with modern BAIONLENJA aesthetics. Case angle of 11 degrees and a new variant of sandwich mount create an old-school typing experience.

Mounting Style

With LARVA I wanted to revive sandwich mount. Normally sandwich mount boards have the plate squeezed exclusively between case halves, but I wanted to emulate the feel of top mount.

One of my favorite keyboards of all time, the OG Whale did this but had a plate rattle problem: the case went around the plate without exerting pressure on it. It would rattle because the case halves squeezed against each other, instead of the plate.

This issue limits the design possibilities of sandwich mount boards, which is what I wanted to solve.

I solved this issue using reverse plate tilt, to deform the plate and prevent it from rattling. This also has the benefit of slightly lowering the typing angle, to a more palatable 10 degree while keeping the chunky aesthetics of 11 degrees. The front height is lowest so far for my keyboards at 16 mm. This helps with the ergonomics and aggresive looks even more.

In addition, I added O-ring pillars. Using an O-ring does not affect the typing feel, as the plate cannot move, but instead this allows for more customization when it comes to sound.
